Grand Seiko Heritage Collection
Hi-Beat 36000 62GS
“Sakura Kakushi” SBGH368

A celebration of sakura-kakushi in 18k rose gold.

Grand Seiko’s reverence for nature and the changing seasons is beautifully expressed in the SBGH368, an 18-karat rose gold timepiece inspired by sakura-kakushi—the fleeting moment when cherry blossoms lie hidden beneath freshly fallen snow. This striking reinterpretation of the 62GS, Grand Seiko’s first automatic mechanical model from 1967, blends heritage with modern craftsmanship and marks the first non-limited edition within the 62GS case design crafted in 18K rose gold.

The 38mm case, made from 18K rose gold, is expertly finished to highlight Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu polishing, exuding warmth and refinement. The copper pink dial glows with a soft radiance, evoking the image of cherry blossoms concealed beneath a fresh layer of snow. The dual-curve sapphire crystal enhances its depth, while the screw-down crown ensures durability. Paired with a luxurious crocodile leather strap secured by a three-fold clasp, the SBGH368 achieves a balance of sophistication and comfort on the wrist.

At its heart lies the Hi-Beat Caliber 9S85, a 36,000 bph automatic movement with 37 jewels, delivering an impressive accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day. It offers a 55-hour power reserve, ensuring exceptional reliability. The caseback, also crafted in 18K rose gold with a sapphire crystal, reveals the intricate mechanics within.

Designed for both beauty and functionality, the SBGH368 features 100m water resistance and a magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m, making it a refined yet robust timepiece. With every glance at the dial, the wearer is transported to a serene Japanese spring morning, where snow-covered cherry blossoms glisten in the early sunlight—an elegant reminder of nature’s fleeting beauty, captured in an exemplary piece of horology.

The timepiece will be available exclusively at the Grand Seiko boutiques and authorised retailers worldwide from April 2025.

Discover the two latest mechanical creations based on the 62GS case design that celebrates the beauty of cherry blossoms in early spring

12 February 2025 – In 1967, Grand Seiko introduced its first automatic mechanical watch, known as the 62GS. The watch was characterized by its distinctive bezel-free construction, allowing a seamless integration of the crystal with the case. Today, two new timepieces based on the 62GS design join the Heritage Collection, each with a dial that evokes the captivating beauty of cherry blossoms in early spring.

Both watches are powered by Grand Seiko’s smallest automatic mechanical movement, Caliber 9S27. With a case diameter of 30mm and a thickness of just 10.5mm, these compact 62GS-based creations are the slimmest automatic Grand Seiko timepieces today.

One of the key characteristics of the 62GS is the curved contour of its case sides. The curved case sides shine beautifully and without distortion thanks to Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu polishing technique. Combined with the box-shaped sapphire crystal, this skilfully applied polish enhances the refined elegance of the bezel-free design. Sakura-Kakushi.

The creation with the pink dial is inspired by sakura-kakushi, a phenomenon in which cherry blossoms are gently hidden beneath a blanket of snow. This tranquil scene unfolds in early spring in northern Japan, where the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, home to Grand Seiko mechanical creations, is located. The delicate harmony of snow and cherry blossoms is expressed through the dial’s finely textured pattern and soft, greyish-pink hue. Changing subtly with different angles and lighting, the dial exudes a dynamic elegance that brings vibrancy and refinement to the wrist.

The dial of the other watch draws inspiration from sakura-tsukiyo, the tranquil beauty of cherry blossoms softly illuminated under a hazy, moonlit sky. In early spring, the significant temperature shifts between day and night often create a misty or foggy ambiance, diffusing the moonlight into a gentle, blurred glow. This enchanting scene is elegantly captured through a delicately textured pattern with a silver hue that captures different nuances of light depending on the angle.

Both watches feature a see-through case back, allowing wearers to enjoy the beauty of Caliber 9S27. Measuring just 20mm in diameter and 4.49mm in height, Caliber 9S27 achieves the perfect balance of exceptional performance and refined slimness. Its compact dimensions allow for a comfortable fit on any wrist and lend the watches a sophisticated profile. The movement’s escape wheel, created through MEMS engineering, is designed to resemble a five-petaled flower, integrating the floral theme into even the smallest design details.

The new timepieces will be available exclusively at the Grand Seiko boutiques and selected authorised retailers worldwide beginning in April 2025.

A new mechanical creation in the Evolution 9 Style captures the majesty of Mt. Iwatewith a distinctive new dial.

The watch features a new interpretation of the Mt. Iwate pattern.

03 February 2025 – The beauty of the natural world is palpable at the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where Grand Seiko mechanical watches are made. Located in northern Japan, with Mt. Iwate in the distance, master craftsmen and women bring watches to life in a place deeply in tune with the local surroundings. Today, a new creation inspired by the mountain that has come to symbolize Grand Seiko mechanical watchmaking is introduced into the Evolution 9 Collection. In design, material and technology, the new watch demonstrates the innovative spirit of Grand Seiko.

A new radial dial inspired by the view of Mt. Iwate

The watch features a new textured dial inspired by the ridges of Mt. Iwate. The first Mt. Iwate pattern dial appeared in 2006 and has since become deeply associated with Grand Seiko mechanical watchmaking. Mt. Iwate is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan; its history can be seen in the rugged mountain scape and the lava flow at its northern base. The dial of this new creation captures the timeless beauty of Mt. Iwate from the sky, with the striking light-blue hue evoking the purity of the air and water that surrounds this landmark.

The watch has been shaped in the Evolution 9 Style, which represents a step forward for the Grand Seiko ideals of beauty, legibility, and wearing comfort while honouring a design language established in 1967 with the iconic 44GS. Zaratsu polishing to a distortion-free mirror finish alternates with a delicate hairline finish to impart a quiet and harmonious glow. The watch’s powerful hands and prominent, grooved indexes ensure the legibility for which Grand Seiko has become renowned. The case, with its low centre of gravity, and a bracelet with the perfect width and thickness combine to ensure that the watch sits comfortably and securely on the wrist.

The case and bracelet are made of Ever-Brilliant Steel, a stainless-steel alloy that features greater corrosion resistance than is typically seen in the watch industry today. Enhanced by the proper ties of Ever-Brilliant Steel, the hairline-finished parts of the watch shine whiter than they would if formed from usual stainless steel. Their finish perfectly complements the light-blue dial, creating a harmonious design that shimmers beautifully on the wrist.

* Ever-Brilliant Steel has a PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) value more than 1.7 times higher than that of the grade of steel used in most high-end watches. PREN is a widely accepted standard used to measure corrosion resistance.

This high-beat watch is powered by the Caliber 9SA5, which offers a power reserve of 80 hours, thanks to the use of the highly efficient Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels. The SLGH027 movement’s finish is inspired by the rippling waves of the Shizukuishi River near the studio where the watch is made.

The new Mt. Iwate inspired timepiece will be available as a limited edition of 1,200 at the Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide beginning in May 2025.
